一般注記 In 1941, Great Britain's Ministry of War Transport took over the functions of the Ministry of Transport (established 1919), and the Ministry of Shipping. Abolished in 1956, its functions were transferred to the Ministry of Transport. Taking over the Ministry of Civil Aviation in 1953, its name was changed to Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation. In 1959 the name Ministry of Transport was resumed when the civil aviation functions were transferred to the Ministry of Supply. In 1970, the Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Housing and Local Government, and Ministry of Public Building and Works merged into the new Department of the Environment.
